The Elephanta Caves are the focal point of Gharapuri Island, which was renamed the Elephanta Island by the Portuguese, located in the Mumbai.
The rock-cut temple complex covers an area of 60,000 sq ft consisting of a main chamber, 2 lateral ones, courtyards and subsidiary shrines. The site of these magnificent caves contained beautiful reliefs, sculptures, and a temple to the Hindu god Shiva. The caves are hewn from solid rock.[4] The temple complex is said to be the abode of Shiva.
How to reach - The Elephanta Island can be reached only by boat. Ferry rides are available from the Gateway of India and it takes just 15 minutes to reach the Elephanta Island.
Duration: – 4 – 5 Hrs.
Program: - Pick up from hotel and drive to Gateway of India to take catamaran cruise to Elephanta caves. Visit Elephanta caves. Later return to Gateway of India by catamaran cruise than transfer to you hotel.
